چکیده

A forward second-harmonic scattering method for determining the second-order susceptibility coefficients of ZnO nanorods on the order of 100 nm in diameter is presented. The long coherence length and strong intensity of the forward second-harmonic signal allow for a simple theoretical model to match the experimental measurements; this results in getting accurate values for the second-order susceptibility tensors. Different signs of d31 and d33 are confirmed. The results also show that Kleinman’s symmetry is destroyed at a near-resonant second-harmonic wavelength of 405 nm for the ZnO nanorods. © 2009 American Institute of Physics. DOI: 10.1063/1.3093903

Revealing silent vibration modes of nanomaterials by detecting anti-Stokes hyper-Raman scattering with femtosecond laser pulses.

We proposed a scheme in which normal Raman scattering is coupled with hyper-Raman scattering for generating a strong anti-Stokes hyper-Raman scattering in nanomaterials by using femtosecond laser pulses. The proposal was experimentally demonstrated by using a single-layer MoS2 on a SiO2/Si substrate, a 17 nm-thick MoS2 on an Au/SiO2 substrate and a 9 nm-thick MoS2 on a SiO2-SnO2/Ag/SiO2 substra...

Scattering Intensity and Directionality Probed Along Individual Zinc Oxide Nanorods with Precisely Controlled Light Polarization and Nanorod Orientation.

We elucidated the light-matter interaction of individual ZnO NRs with a monochromatic beam of linearly polarized light that scatters elastically from the ZnO NRs by performing forward scattering and back-aperture imaging in a dark-field setting. We precisely controlled the electric field vector of the incident light and the NR orientation within the plane of light interaction during both modes ...

NON-RESONANT THIRD-ORDER SUSCEPTIBILITIES MEASURED FOR ETHANE, PROPANE AND n-BUTANE

Third-order non-linear susceptibilities have been measured for ethane, propane and n-butane at three wavelengths in the visible region by means of gas-phase electric-field-induced second-harmonic generation (ESHG). The susceptibilities are found to be large and strongly frequency dependent. The possible application of these results to the calibration of the non-resonant background in coherent a...

ZnO nanorods for efficient third harmonic UV generation

ZnO nanorods grown by both high temperature vapour phase transport and low temperature chemical bath deposition are very promising sources for UV third harmonic generation. Material grown by both methods show comparable efficiencies, in both cases an order of magnitude higher than surface third harmonic generation at the quartz-air interface of a bare quartz substrate. This result is in stark c...

Second-Harmonic Rayleigh Scattering from a Sphere of Centrosymmetric Material

We describe the electromagnetic theory of second-harmonic generation from the surface of a sphere that is small compared to the wavelength of light. In a leading-order expansion, the second-harmonic radiation is emitted in nonlocally excited electric dipole and locally excited electric quadrupole modes. We analyze the problem with particular emphasis on experimental aspects, such as the radiati...
